|| Marco Fontanella || 16 || Self-Healing || Prince of Chile || FC: Steven R. McQueen || OPEN
Marco is the youngest of the Fontanella children and the former crown prince. A classically trained musician who can play piano and violin at a very high level, he is the performer, the prodigy of the family. He is bright, outgoing and extroverted, and can be quite the charmer if he wants to. He is also the independent one who functions well on his own. He loves to read and pursue knowledge, having been a curious child growing up and is also highly academic, and contrary to his sister, he loves learning about politics and history, as well as international relations. He has a very compulsive need to be prepared and is always a planner so he likes to learn everything he can in preparation to one day become King. When his older sister Teresa found out that there was a murderer on the loose in Versailles coming after all the Royal children, she had the line of succession redrafted to move her ahead of him to hopefully draw the murderer’s interest away from Marco, which irritates him because he feels like his older sister had taken something away from him that was rightfully his, so there has been a bit of jealousy from sibling rivalry that has intensified and has put a strain on their relationship. But he wants to go to Versailles and train, because one day, he will become the King of Chile and he wants to be prepared. He has a lot to prove to his sister, including the fact that he can take care of himself and requires no protecting.
Catalina Island is not only a tourist destination but is also a breeding ground for gifted young talent, both academically and artistically. But there is a tension brewing between those who have ventured off to chase their dreams in the mainland, and those who are still tied down to the Island. Whether visiting, commuting or tied to the Island, there is never a shortage of drama. To the outsider it seems like the idyllic vacation destination. They have no idea of the real drama that goes on between the islanders and the more adventurous commuters. To the outsider, Catalina Island would seem to be almost paradise.

Something I realised that made me love Mike even more is the fact that this scene happens in Mike’s head. He romanticises his girlfriend and the way she reacts to him, which shows us more about who Mike is himself, and how in love he is with her than it does about Tina herself.
When Tina is at the lockers she is supporting him, but it’s tangible. It’s real, because it’s from our perspective. She even reacts with a “You got an Asian F?!” which is in contrast with the softness and romanticism that Mike sees Tina in.
It’s actually his perception of Tina’s belief and love in him that gave him the strength to go to the audition after all.
Mike is an utter romantic, and he loves Tina so much that her perception of him drives and motivates him beyond his own motivation. Just look at the love etched into his face as he imagines hugging Tina in the last frame, feeling understood and accepted, supported and loved.
